Meet my little “Kenyan brother” Kerry. We met while the OCC team was at Agape Children’s Ministry in Kisumu, Kenya. Our team got to spend a day meeting and playing with the boys at the center and after about an hour I met this little guy, Kerry, who showed me around the center. Then we went and talked for a while. The story he told me was heartbreaking. His dad had died a long time ago and his mom was in prison. He didn’t have anyone to go to and watch over him, which was why he was at Agape.
When I came back the next day to Agape, I brought him a photo of me and my family so that he would have something to remember me by. I gave him one last bear hug then we had to leave.
When we got back to the U.S. I was able to connect with Kate Kjeldgaard on facebook and she was able to send me a message Kerry had written for me (he wrote this just before Agape would be closed for a few weeks for a school break.) This was his message…
"Dear Giselle, We are closing school this Friday…in two days. I am going home to my mother who just got out of prison and I am not ready. When are you coming to see me? I’m praying for you because God loves you and I love you too. I miss you so I will just keep praying o your family so much. I keep such good care of your photo and store it inside of my school uniform so it stays so nice. God loves you and me, don’t forget it. I LOVE YOU! -Kerry Omondi”
If you want someone to pray for, PLEASE keep Kerry in your prayers! Even after all he has went through he has SO much faith in God and love for others. When we met, I thought I would be the one blessing him.. but he is the one who has truly blessed me <3
